Jewelry Making Video: Acorn Earrings
Posted by Eri
I just released a new jewelry making video that shows how to make a pair of acorn earrings.
Here’s a close-up picture of the finished product: Acorn Earrings
Where did I get that name from?
Well, just take a look at the earrings! Don’t they remind you of acorns?
Here’s how I came up with the design.
I usually use Swarovski 5301 bicone beads in various weave designs, but I decided to see what would happend if I weaved using Czech fire polished beads instead.
I brought out some 3mm Czech beads I had lying around and started weaving.
What was interesting is the pattern I was weaving would have been flat if I was using 5301 bicones, but ended up creating a dome shape when I used the Czech beads.
I thought that was a very interesting result. You never know what you’re going to get with different types of beads!
Next I tried some things to see what I could do with a dome shape.
The easiest design was to make something that looked like an acorn, so first I tried a Swarovski pearl, then I tried a large Swarovski crystal 5500 tear drop shape.
Both looked very nice, and the design using the pearl reminded me of an acorn so the name “Acorn Earrings” was born.
It’s interesting that you only need 12 fire polished beads to create the dome shape.
Of course, you can make beautiful earrings just using a pearl or a tear drop crystal by themselves, but the acorn earrings design shows that with just a few extra beads you probably already have lying around that you can create a completely unique design.
Now I am thinking about how I might be able to use the dome shape in some other ways for new designs.
Can you come up with some suggestions?
