Bead Jewelry Making Video: Heart Flower Petal Ring

Posted by Eri

HeartFlowerPetalRing.L1

This week’s featured video class shows how to make a Heart Flower Petal Ring.

I have to admit that this ring doesn’t exactly match with the winter weather we’re having around here, but it makes me already start looking forward to warmer weather.

The fun beads for this ring are the 6202 heart shaped 10mm beads.

When you arrange them in a circular pattern they look just like flower petals!

The remainder of the materials consist of 5301 bicone beads, size 11 seed beads, monofilament string, and a flush cutter.

Jewelry Making is a Never Ending Learning Process

Making Jewelry

I just read a profile about jewelry artist Tammy Powley that I wanted to share.

As you may know, Tammy is the moderator of my favorite jewelry making forum at About.com, and she has authored many books and articles about jewelry making.

What I liked about what Tammy revealed in this profile is that there is no “magic” to achieving success with jewelry making.

Tammy took, and still takes, a lot of classes to continue learning new techniques that she can bring to her creations.

You will see in her profile the different types of jewelry making she has learned.

All the different skills she has learned enable her to mix things together to create very unique designs.

For example, she talks about mixing beads and fiber with metal.

And if not having enough time is your excuse, Tammy also reveals that she is an English teacher at a school!

She must be very good at organizing her time considering how much jewelry making information she creates, but organization is a topic for another day.

A good New Years resolution for all of us, yes including me, it to expand our horizons a little and try other types of jewelry making.

Bead Jewelry Making Video: Fancy Bead Ball

FancyBeadBall.L2

This week’s featured video class shows how to make a Fancy Bead Ball.

This is not a complicated weave, but it’s a step above the basic bead ball because I add seed beads into the mix.

All you need for this pattern are 5301 bicone style beads, size 11 seed beads, monofilament string, and a flush cutter.

At the end of the video I show how to attach the bead ball to a chain using a jump ring.

Bead Jewelry Making Tutorial: How to Not Mix Up Strings When Bead Weaving

Posted by Eri

monofilamentbeadstring

If you have done any bead weaving, especially a complicated pattern, then you know what can happen if you get your left string and right string mixed up.

It can cause a lot of frustration trying to go back and get back on track.

Well, there is a very easy way to keep track of which string is left and which is right.

Click the link to watch this week’s video tutorial so you can see just how easy it is.

Bead Jewelry Making Video: Figure 8 Ring

This week’s featured video class shows how to make a Figure 8 Ring.

This is a beginner level bead weave design that uses a figure 8 weaving pattern.

I used 4mm and 3mm swarovski crystal bicone beads in this design. I also added sterling silver round beads which give it a little more pizzaz.
